Our community is at the heart of the Asheville Performing Arts Academy. We believe that all students in the Asheville area should have access to community productions. We offer one production a semester that is completely open to the community.
The Youth Community Theatre productions give children a chance to rehearse and perform a complete musical in a supportive and fun environment. Along the way they will make good friends, find new ways to express themselves, and amaze everyone including themselves at what they are able to achieve. They will further their theatrical experience by exploring drama, music, and dance with a director, musical director, and choreographer.We work hard to give each child more confidence, a great time, and a lifelong love of theatre.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost?
For Willy Wonka KIDS, the cost of the production is $325. For The Wizard of Oz, the cost is $350 with an early bird special prince of $325 valid through January 15th. This includes a script for the duration of the rehearsal process, a DVD of the production, and all costumes/props that your child will need (We may ask you to provide a base for the costume piece to be over).
Location of the Rehearsals
A majority of the rehearsals will take place at our location, which is at Biltmore United Methodist. The tech week rehearsals will be the week before the show and take place where they performance is being held.
W hat should they wear to rehearsal?
Anything they can move around in comfortably and covers them well no matter how crazy the choreography is. Please send them in closed toe shoes like tennis shoes or dance shoes.
What do I need to do to help my child get ready for the production?
Once we pass out the CD and script for the production, you can help my playing the songs over and over (until you feel like you never want to hear them again) and make sure that your child is learning their words. If your child has lines, please run the lines with them and also make sure that they are recognize the lines before their so that they know when to say them. Closer to the production we will send home information about costumes and other show details.
Will every child get a part?
Every child will have a role whether it is a named part or a part of the ensemble. Many time those in the ensemble will have several parts and several costume changes. Every child will have plenty of stage time. Let your child know everyone can't get the part they want every time, but that all parts are important and that we will make sure tat every child has fun things to do on stage.
Do you need parent helpers?
We need a massive support team to help make this production runs smoothly. As we get closer to the production, we will send out emails for parents to help with load-in, strike, backstage, ushers, concessions, and tickets.
