210 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.

The Asheville Performing Arts Academy is located in North Asheville within walking distance of downtown Asheville. You'll find us in the same school zone as Claxton Elementary, across from the red Enmark Station and next door to the House of Fabrics.
  • How do I register for classes or summer camps?

To register for any of our programs, contact the Asheville Performing Arts Academy at (828) 253-4000.
  • What types of programs are offered at the Asheville Performing Arts Academy?

The Asheville Performing Arts Academy is a school for students to explore their interests in music, dance, and drama. Our programs include:

The Academy, a training program based in American Musical Theatre for students who are serious about developing their skills in music, drama, and dance.

The Prep Academy, a training program based in the American Musical Theatre for students who hope to later pursue the Academy program.

The Creative Arts Preschool at the Asheville Performing Arts Academy, a holistic, curriculum-based program for children ages 2-5 years, based in the arts.

Children's Theatre, an opportunity for aspiring young artists to perform and have fun in productions appropriate for their skill levels.

The Drake School of Irish Dance in Asheville, an Irish Dance school based in Atlanta, Georgia. This Asheville location was inspired by the growth of our previous Irish Dance program, the Gallagher School of Irish Dance.
  • What types of dance classes are available?

We have two avenues for taking dance classes at the Asheville Performing Arts Academy: The Academy Training Program and The Drake School of Irish Dance. Students of the Academy Training Program take a dance class as part of their overall curriculum to prepare them for musical theatre. Ballet and jazz styles are included in the Academy dance class. Students taking Academy dance classes are also enrolled in music, acting, and tech classes as appropriate to their level in the Academy training program. Ballet, tap, jazz, and Broadway dance classes are not available a la carte at this time, though they have been offered in the past and may be available in the future. Please contact the APAA for the most current class listings. The Drake School of Irish Dance offers Irish Dance classes for beginner and advanced students. Irish Dance classes are the only classes available outside of a musical theatre program. Students also learn dance and choreography in the Creative Arts Preschool and the Children's Theatre Program, but the dance is incorporated in the overall structure and is not taught as a stand-alone class at this time.
  • Do you have classes for all ages?

Yes! Between our Creative Arts Preschool, the Academy Training Program, the Drake School of Irish Dance, and Private Lessons, we have students of all ages!
